Golf Scramble

As many of you know, the St. Louis Hellbenders represent the St. Louis Ad Club Softball League at the Sports Illustrated Advertising Softball World Series in October at different locations. Previous years have been played in Florida, Arizona, and Colorado - just to name a few. This year the location is Nevada...Las Vegas to be exact.

The St. Louis Hellbenders are mostly comprised of players from Ad Pariahs and Hughes, but it looks like we have a few interested parties from Spark and Hoffman Lewis this year. All of this is great, as a matter of fact, we'd like to have enough interest to comprise a whole additional team to take to Las Vegas this year. Two St. Louis Co-ed teams and a St. Louis Men's team would be fantastic.

I'll admit, the cost to some is a little bit steep, which is why the St. Louis Hellbenders do several fundraisers to help offset the out of pocket cost. This year, for the second time, they're holding a Golf Scramble at Normandie on June 10th. They're looking for foursomes for the scramble, hole sponsors, and people to purchase golf balls for a chance to win $500. I hope, that even if some of you aren't interested in playing in the Sports Illustrated Softball Advertising World Series, that you might be interested in getting a foursome together for a great afternoon of golf with a chance for Cardinal Tickets, door prizes, and beer.

If your interested in getting a foursome together, sponsoring a hole, or buying a golf ball for the drop, please shoot me an email, or contact the names on the flyer.

Thanks,

Jamie

Ahhh....85 and Partly Cloudy

Here we go...looks like we might fit in some games. There's been some confusion about the games. ALL games that are rained out will be made up at a later date. Always go by the schedule to know what time you play each week. When we have the make-up dates we'll let you know.

With that said, this weeks (May 10th's) match-ups:

Field 2:

6:30 - Emmis vs. Clear Channel
7:30 - Drive vs. Zipatoni
8:30 - Ad Pariahs vs. Shaw

Field 3:

6:30 - Hughes vs. Spark
7:30 - Rodgers-Townsend vs. Hoffman Lewis
8:30 - Schupp vs. Osborn & Barr

Byes - Momentum and Moosylvania

Again, don't forget, rBar has food and drink specials for the AdClub League before and after the games. Hughes is headed there after their game. We hope to see some of you there. Click here for directions from the fields.

Ebby Calvin LaLoosh's Good Friend Used to Say...

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains."

Think about that for a while.

1. Rain Out Number is 314.289.5307. As a rule of thumb, please only allow coaches to call the number. There are many games a night so all of the other teams will be checking the recording as well. I'll be checking it around 3:30 or so and will send out an email if the games are canceled. Which reminds me, only a few teams have a back-up coach listed. If you'd like to have someone else added to the emails, please let me and Jay know.

2. rBar. Don't forget, rBar has food and drink specials for the AdClub League before and after the games. Hughes went and had some tasty tasty pizza and Schupp also showed up a little later. If any other teams were there, I apologize, I must have left before the party really got started. Click here for directions from the fields.

3. Match-ups for tonight:

Field 2:

6:30 - Momentum vs. Schupp Co.
7:30 - Hoffman Lewis vs. Shaw Co.
8:30 - Spark vs. Moosylvania

Field 3:
6:30 - Emmis vs. Drive (Beaver Liquors)
7:30 - Osborn & Barr vs. Advertising Pariahs
8:30 - Clear Channel vs. Zipatoni

Bye - Hughes & Rodgers-Townsend

Never Saw It Comin'

We all know there's plenty of baseball metaphors like Getting to 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. Then of course the Home Run, the Strike Out, the Pickle, the Switch Hitter, Playing For the Other Team, Sacrifice Fly, Courtesy Foul, and of course, we can't forget the Long Ball.

I don't know how many of you saw the Drive Agency's shirt that looked like a beautiful blend of cotton in a nice shade of heather gray with the logo "Beaver Liquors", in traditional baseball design fashion. I walked up, saw the name and said "Which team are you?", to which one of the female players said "We're Beaver Liquors." Just something not-right-in-a-really-funny-sort-of-way about that response no matter what context it's in. Finally, after a little back and forth I found out that it was Drive Agency.

When asked about the shirts, Rommel Medrano, the Beaver Liquors Left-Bencher said, "The few looks that I received from those who find our uni's slighty offensive is what truly makes it worthwhile."

I can only imagine. I just have one question...who's number 77?

"Pick'em Up"

"Yeah I called her up, she gave me a bunch of crap about me not listening to her, or something, I don't know, I wasn't really paying attention."

Okay, so I'll admit, I went to pick up the schedules, score book, rules, and softballs for Hughes tonight and I couldn't find the darn place. I know, Jay said it was shady, but I didn't realize it was actually AT the greehouses in this shack looking place that's about 14' x 10' and has a piece of plywood on the ground so you can get across the little creek the rain made today.

The good news is that I DID get the schedule and the list of illegal bats, scanned them in and have posted for all to see. Now, there's been some confusion amongst teams about the start date of the league. We start two weeks from Thursday on April 19th and play for 16 weeks. There will be two teams with a bye each week.

Although I do have the schedule posted here, each coach needs to make sure they get their packet from the office because you'll need to get your game balls and fill out a roster before your first game.

And it looks like the two new Co-Commish's battle it out in one of the first games of the night.

Field 2:

6:30 - Hughes vs. Momentum
7:30 - Schupp vs. Spark
8:30 - Moosylvania vs. Osborn & Barr

Field 3:

6:30 - Ad Pariahs vs. Emmis
7:30 - Drive vs. Clear Channel
8:30 - Zipatoni vs. Rodgers-Townsend

Byes - Shaw & Hoffman Lewis

Again, if you've got any questions, please don't hesitate to email Jay or myself. However, if you just want to start something up, head to the forums.

We're Good To Go

So all the money is in and we're all set for the 2007 Summer Softball League. Well, almost set that is.

Sometime this week April 2nd - 6th (M-F 3:30-6:00 p.m.) everyone needs to get their schedules, score book, and softballs from the league. The included map (click for a larger printable version) accurately depicts the random maintenance building to which you must venture. Typically there will be Forest Park orange trucks outside. It's right next to an old greenhouse.

If you are unable to get there this week during those hours, please email Jay Williams, or myself and we'll pick them up for you.

We're only 17 days away from opening day. We'll let you know about the Opening Day festivities (most likely limited numbers of free beer at the fields) as we get closer.

Peace out.

Welcome!

The 2007 AdClub Softball season is upon us. This year, as many of you are aware, Tim Halpin has retired from the Commissioner's position. He has handed the reigns over to Jay Williams of Momentum and myself, Jamie Rule of Hughes. Things are moving along a little slower than they have in past years, so we apologize...we're still just getting the hang of it.

Something new for this year is this lovely little blog you're visiting. Jay and I will work hard to keep this up to date as much as possible with information, pictures, and even game scores and standings. Again, I say we'll do our best, but you know how things like work and vacation just get in the way sometimes. So, we'll add an RSS feed to this so you can be alerted of any updates through your favorite RSS reader like Bloglines or Shrook.

With that said, first things first - Deadline for registration and $500 entry fee is March 12, 2007.

Make checks payable to AdClub Saint Louis and send completed registration form and check via mail to:

AdClub Saint Louis
Attn: Nan Hartley
Post Office Box 25880
St. Louis, MO 63136

Games will continue to be played on Thursdays at Aviation Fields in Forest Park with game times of 6:30, 7:30, and 8:30. Make-up games will be played on an as needed basis at 9:30. There will be approximately 13-14 teams in the league. First games will be played on April 19th, 2007. We'll post a schedule here as soon as we have one. We'll also post an update for coaches letting them know when to pick up packets from the Forest Park Office.

Giddyup!

Jamie AKA "Co-Commish"
